New Character and Graphic OLED Modules
Microtips Technology is pleased to announce our new line of passive matrix organic LED Modules, now available as standard off-the-shelf character and graphic displays.
OLED technology achieves high brightness through organic technology which offers much lower power consumption than traditional LCDs with LED, CCFL and EL backlighting.
The standard character sizes include, 8 character and 2 lines up to 20x4 or 40x2. The standard graphic sizes include, 50x16 up to 256x64.
All modules are available as chip on board (COB) designs as well as some available as chip on glass (COG), and tape automated bonding (TAB).
Other primary features include high brightness, optional sunlight readability, extremely high contrast, extra wide viewing angles, extended temperature,
lower cost and an ultra-slim design with optional custom PCB to fit your design requirements. Perfect for a full range of applications,
to replace your expensive VFDs and FFSTN displays. These are available in various colors including yellow, amber, green, white, blue, and red.

Optical Bonding for Projective Capacitive Touch Panel
Here at Microtips Technology we put a lot of focus on Projective Capacitive (PCAP) touch panels. This is because we see a huge trend in the industry for these products.
They have far exceeded the popularity of resistive touch technology due to their highly responsive nature, wide range of applications and convenience of use.
We’ve previously talked about how touch panels help increase the usability, intuitiveness and user friendly experience with your product, the wide range
of applications, sizes and features (multi-touch, gestures, swipe, pinch-zoom), cover glass support, and so on. In this article we want to focus on one aspect of your product design: viewability.
A typical PCAP stack-up can include various combinations of multiple layers of glass and film. Typical layer thickness is generally touch lens (glass or film) of 0.3~3.0mm,
optically clear adhesive (OCA) of 0.05mm, and ITO glass of 0.55/0.7/1.1mm.
It’s easy to see that PCAP touch panels can add quite a few extra layers of material between the user’s eyes and your display,
which can highly affect viewability. Specialty double sided tape materials are a common and cost effective method to adhere these layers together.
However this creates small air gaps between the layers which causes a reduction in image clarity due to added ambient light reflections, Newton Ring phenomena,
and reduced transmissivity leading to a loss of brightness, contrast and color saturation. This is where Optical Bonding technology really shines! Using optically clear adhesive
(OCA) materials instead of tape can make a huge improvement by eliminating these air gaps. From an optical perspective it essentially creates a single layer,
which by design also further improves durability among many other benefits. There are two primary methods for applying OCA material. Die-cut OCA sheets are
more common as they are simple, clean, bubble free by a lamination/vacuum process, and are the easier, faster & more cost effective option. The Liquid OCA method
further improves the optical benefits and adds many other inherent ones. However, the costs of liquid OCA are higher due to concerns such as longer laminating process,
added UV/thermal curing, run-off and yield rate issues.

New Carbon Nanotube Capacitive Touch Panels for LCD
Capacitive touch panels have become the go-to technology for detecting user input in a wide range of applications and are commonly found paired with liquid crystal
displays in every day devices such as desktop and smart phones, mobile devices, game consoles, all-in-one and tablet computers, appliances and monitoring devices.
They have become one of the most essential features of the products we use every day and are now an indispensible part of our lives. At Microtips Technology we are
proud of our full line of TFT liquid crystal displays featuring cutting edge projective capacitive touch (PCAP) technology.
We are also one of very few suppliers in the industry offering the latest Carbon Nanotube (CNT) technology. While CNT technology has been around in various forms
for some time, recent developments have found it to be a very useful for improving capacitive touch panel design. We are currently using CNT technology as a
replacement for ITO in some of our resistive and capacitive touch panels, which offers many benefits. CNT has higher durability, increased accuracy, higher
sensitivity, flexible, better transmissivity, capable of higher resolutions, and even has a more environmentally friendly manufacturing process. There is also a
cost savings associated with CNT due to cheaper raw materials and no requirement for glass etching, which equates to a more price competitive final product.
Further cost reducing options are available, such as offering glass-film (GF), glass-film-film (GFF) and hybrid GFF designs. We also have PCAP touch panel options
where the cover glass is integrated into the PCAP glass, removing the need for an extra layer in cases where mechanical thickness is a concern.

White Paper: “Benefits of VLCD over VFD”
Microtips Technology USA has released white papers called “Benefits of VLCD over VFD”. Available on the Microtips USA website, as well as the ThomasNet White Papers Library, this paper explores the alternative benefits of the newly engineered, vivid liquid crystal display (VLCD), in comparison to the already existing vacuum fluorescent displays (VFD). Differences in the technical specifications that highlight the advantages of the VLCD over the VFD are addressed, including a higher contrast and brightness (800:1 contrast), wider temperature ranges of OT= -30c to +80c and ST= -40c to +80c, and a lower cost. Available in various white, red, blue, and green alpha/ numeric texts, this VLCD white paper provides small-size LCD consumers with supported data that shows the VLCD option as the best choice for the technological needs of today's display module user.
